26/4/2012 - Left Nelson about 9.40am after a quiet night.  Called into Port MacDonnell that is a lovely clean town with nice beach but lots of seaweed.  It has big crayfishing boats at the wharf and a lighthouse.  The van park looks good too.  Drove into Mt Gambier and was lucky enough to drive past the Blue Lake which is the town's water supply and about 70 metres deep so we parked up and went and had a look and took lots of photos.  The lake is a beautiful blue that changes colour and goes more of a greyish colour after March each year then turns back to a vivid blue during November so it's quite a tourist attraction. Mt Gambier is a large town with lots of old buildings and homes but we think is a badly signposted town for tourists.  You are never quite sure if you are on the right road.  From there we stopped at Tantanoola Roadhouse where we  topped up with fuel at $1.50 a litre.  There was a huge windfarm  between there and Millicent.  They don't seem to worry the cattle there as they were grazing right under them. Then on to Cape Button and Southend.  Southend is lovely so we had lunch at the jetty and watched a crayboat come in and unload his pots.  Apparently the cray season is finished down here now.  Went up to one of the lookouts and got some great photos from there and took a photo of a streetsign in town called Bonney Street for Lee Lee.  One of the caravan parks in town was called "Lynnies Caravan Park" so had to get a photo of that too.  We stopped at a memorial lookout just before Beachport to have a look at the beach.  Found heaps of Sea Urchin shells on the beach and they were all colours and sizes. We think we could even free camp there too.  Also a dump point there.  Beachport was just beautiful with a good van park and a really long jetty.  We could spend weeks here. Robe was the next town but we weren't too impressed with it.  It was a bit yuppyish.  Kept going till we spotted a sign to Wrights Bay Campground which we thought we should investigate.  We are so glad we did.  It is a lovely flat campground with lots of grass and has a bore water tank.  It was only $3 each a night so we decided to stop there.  It was quite windy but lovely.  We checked out the beach and couldn't believe how much seaweed was piled up on it.  It would have been 3 feet in some places and also a bit smelly but we liked the place anyway.  We also had mobile and internet service there.
