- Anzac Day today. Left Port Fairy heading further up the
Limestone Coast as far as we want to travel today. Called into Lake
Yambuk which is a lovely little fishing spot with a small caravan park.
It was $22 a night but would have to ring to make sure they had a site. Great
place for the kayaks. Codrington Wind Farm went for kilometres along the
coastal dunes. They look so much like something from a science-fiction
movie. Got a great photo of an ordinary old windmill with the new Wind
Farm in the background. The countryside is nice and flat now so easier
driving and there are lots of Black Angus cattle and sheep in the paddocks.
On to Portland and then just before Nelson we came across at least a
dozen emus having a pick beside the road. They took us by surprise and so
many of them. Got into the town of Nelson which is also a good spot for
the kayaks. The caravan park was just on the edge of town and was only
$22 for the night so we decided to pull up for the night. The park was
quite rural with lots of birds and at least 4 kangaroos. We were having
happy hour outside when the roos came up one by one and a couple of them were
taking bread and lettuce from Pa. They obviously scored like this all the
time. Got some good photos of them though. Quite a cold night but
at least we had the power for the blower heater.
